Frequently asked questions
Quick information about Metamock/Metamock Pro to help you get started.
Metamock is an image generation engine that uses advanced AI models to generate images.
Instead of using prompts, it uses metadata attributes (e.g. product type, background, camera angle, lighting, human model specification etc.) to generate these images. This saves users from spending hours on tuning AI prompts or using DIY tools like Photoshop/Canva etc. to build base images and then mockups.
It is also an alternative to brand savvy, high-volume sellers who do not wish to use generic mockup templates for showcasing their offerings OR employ agencies and freelancers to do their production.
In print-on-demand product mockups, the base image is the core image on which the seller's art is overlayed.
In print-on-demand, a mockup is the final image which includes the seller's art overlayed on top of the base image.
A mockup template on the other hand is an image with a dynamic placeholder in which the seller can insert any art.
So with one template, a seller could generate multiple mockups using different artwork.
Printify's default mockups look like they were generated by a robot having a bad day! Floating t-shirts. White void backgrounds. Zero personality. Congratulations—your store now looks identical to 47,000 other Etsy sellers. NOT what you want.
Metamock fixes this. Generate realistic base images with actual humans, actual backgrounds, and actual vibes. Selling kids' tees? Picture this: adorable child models, killer settings, mockups that make parents reach for their wallets instead of the scroll button.
Stand out or blend in. Your call.
In short, yes. To generate full Mockups, you need to upgrade to Metamock Pro.
Metamock is designed for experienced designers and DIY sellers who want control and freedom in how their art is overlaid. They just want the base images that match the attributes of products that their print-on-demand platform offers.
If you want the full package including base images, and mockups, then upgrade to Metamock Pro.
Optimizing prompts and identifying the right AI model for a specific product, is not as easy as it sounds.
Sure, adventurous POD sellers can trial-and-error their way out with manual prompting to get good enough images, but in our experience as professional POD sellers ourselves, this is simply not scalable when you are doing multiple listings, and social media campaigns.
Each listing typically takes 4/5 mockups on platforms like Etsy, Amazon, Redbubble etc. Add to that the number of unique images you might need for recurring social media postings and it all quickly becomes impossible to manage without automation.
Three reasons.
- Generic mockup generators force you into selecting a base image that they support. Sure, they support multiple base images but in all probability, your specific context and audience is unique and not available. Brand-savvy sellers know this and they are always on the lookout for feasible alternatives.
- Quality matters when it comes to visual merchandising. With generic mockup templates, you do not control anything technically, not the masking, not the lighting, not natural folds, and most certainly not the product attributes. In many cases, overlay images appear as flat art artificially pasted on the underlying object.
- The templates that you use do not belong to you. You are effectively paying only for the mockups that the platform lets you generate from those templates. This creates vendor lock-in and price inefficiencies as your scale grows.
To understand this, you need to understand what goes into making product mockups.
Mockups include a) the base images on which you overlay your art and b) the final blended image showing your art overlayed onto the base image.
Metamock is our product that allows you to generate the base images.
Metamock Pro allows you to generate the base images AND the final mockups using your own templates.
Metamock is meant for DIY sellers/designers who wish to create their own mockups or mockup templates.
Metamock Pro is designed for hands-off sellers selling in large volumes and who need to quickly generate mockups for their product listings and marketing campaigns.
Base Image A photo of a blank product (no design on it) in a realistic setting. This could be a plain t-shirt on a model, a blank mug on a kitchen counter, etc. It's the foundation everything else is built on.
Mockup A finished image showing your design on a product. It's what customers see in your listings—your art realistically placed on a t-shirt, hoodie, phone case, whatever. Ready to use.
Mockup Template A reusable file (often a PSD) built from a base image. It has a placeholder where you drop in your design, and it automatically warps and adjusts to look realistic. Swap in new designs without starting from scratch every time.
Metamock Pro is ideally suited for:
- POD sellers without design skills
- Etsy, Amazon, Redbubble, Printify/Printful sellers
- Hobbyists and side hustlers doing 20-100+ listings/month
- Small business owners who'd rather spend time on product and marketing
- Anyone who hates Photoshop or doesn't own it
Printful and Gelato provide basic, generic mockups—and so does everyone else using them. Your listings end up looking identical to thousands of other sellers.
Metamock Pro lets you generate unique base images with custom models and backgrounds, then creates finished mockups with your designs applied. Same products, way better presentation.
You stand out. They scroll past your competitors.
Absolutely not!
The mockups you generate will be use the exact same print area as used by major POD platforms.
When you order mockups through Metamock Pro, you will have the option to select your provider. Our system will automatically generate the mockups with correctly sized print area.

Yes.

Please check out the pricing page here.
Finished mockups come as high-resolution PNG or JPG (your choice). Template files come as PSD with all layers and masks intact.
You can view a complete list of supported product categories in the Categories menu section of our site.
Generating the mockup templates is a semi-automated process.
For every category, you must select a specific area where you want the art overlay to be placed.
For example, if you are creating a t-shirt mockup template, you need to tell us if you want the design to go on t-shirt front, back, sleeves or one side of the front chest pose.
We will then create your templates manually. Once you have the template, overlaying your new designs is completely automated and you can do this easily from within Metamock Pro.

What are the components of a template?
A template needs to have three elements.
The main image file: This is the underlying base/context image on which you want your object to be placed. This must be in png format and be named main.png.
The mask file: This is the mask file which specifies the masking area over which you need to overlay your art. It must always be named mask.png.
The configuration json: This is the configuration file which must specify the type of template to be used and also a corners array which specifies the co-ordinates of art.
The template type can be one of quadrilateral, cylindrical, circular. The corners array is mandatory for quadrilateral template type.
The best way to get started with configurations is to just copy an existing template.json from your account area and then tailoring it to your specific configuration. Note that the configuration file must always be named template.json.
The overlayed art in my mockups is ignoring the underlying shadows and folds. What is the problem?
The problem is most likely in the way you have created your mask. The mask must be correctly designed to have the right opacity and shades of gray to account for capturing the underlying shadows and texture. Try changing the mask and regenerating your mockups.
I want to overlay different artwork items on different masks within a template. Is this supported?
Multiple masks are not currently supported in a single template.
What size does my art have to be in order to show properly in the mockup?
The art must be proportioned appropriately to the mask area that you have specified. Making it too small or large will induce pixelation in the final mockup. A variance of +10% is usually acceptable to produce satisfactory results.
